Atlanta will likely not see snow Saturday, but cooler temperatures will continue and parts of east Georgia could get some flurries over the weekend.

Saturday will start off chilly with temperatures in the low-30s, but with partly cloudy skies all day, temperatures will rise to the high-30s and low-40s by mid-afternoon. After a cold week and metro Atlanta finally getting some much-awaited snow last weekend, the cold front has passed us and snow is not expected except for in parts of east Georgia.

“Clouds gradually clearing and cold conditions with a few flakes flying here and there, but that’s about it as far as any winter weather threat across metro Atlanta and North Georgia,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

A winter weather advisory is in place until 7 a.m. for most of north and central Georgia, according to the National Weather Service. Counties under the advisory include Hall, Banks, Jackson, Madison, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Rockdale, Walton, Newton, Morgan, Jasper and Putnam. A wintry mix of freezing rain and light snow could move through the area overnight.

Less than an inch of snow accumulation should be expected and a light glaze of ice is possible on elevated surfaces like bridges and overpasses. Slippery road conditions could last until later in the morning and motorists should use caution when traveling.

Moving into Sunday, metro Atlanta will see similar temperatures and a high of 49 degrees by mid-afternoon. Skies are expected to remain clear all day Sunday with no rain moving in. By Monday, temperatures should be a bit higher, but that won’t last long, as it’s expected to cool off again by Tuesday.

Over the weekend, I-285 and Ga. 400 will see a few closures as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation Transform 285/400 project. A full ramp closure on Roswell Road to I-285 eastbound will be in place and four right lanes from Roswell to Glenridge Drive will be closed as crews work overnight on a beam affecting Fulton County.

On Ga. 400, a ramp onto Abernathy Road and two lanes going northbound at Mount Vernon Highway will be closed for crews working overnight on a bridge. Several other areas will be shut down, but work will be limited to the overnight hours.
