This past weekend five box turtles were stolen out of their enclosure at the Autry Mill Nature Preserve, 9770 Autry Mill Rd. in Johns Creek. According to the nature preserve, “these box turtles have all been raised in captivity and are very unlikely to survive in the wild.”

Box turtles are illegal to keep as pets in Georgia, but Autrey Mill has a special permit to keep them to educate the public about the importance of wildlife conservation.

In a social media post Wednesday, Sept. 22, the nature preserve released a video showing three individuals seen on camera taking the turtles out of their enclosure and away from Autrey Mill.
