A Midtown High School student was arrested Thursday morning after trying to bring a gun on campus, according to Atlanta Public Schools.

The student has not been identified, but was arrested by the APS Police Department after the school’s security system detected the weapon.

“The student was arrested immediately and removed from the building,” APS said in a statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “The student will face criminal charges and will also face disciplinary action in accordance with Atlanta Public Schools and Atlanta Board of Education policy. The safety and wellbeing of students and employees is of the utmost importance at Midtown and in all Atlanta Public Schools.”

This is a developing story.
