Keep your Memorial Day weekend plans flexible.
Showers are expected across metro Atlanta through the first half of next week.
“We are tracking a fairly active weather pattern,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Ashley Kramlich said.
“Each day of the weekend will bring in the chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms, (but) overall, a very low severe weather threat.”
You will likely have to dodge showers or thunderstorms if you have outdoor plans, so keep your rain gear on hand and have a few backup activities in mind.
From Saturday through Monday, meteorologists predict the region will see up to 4 inches of rain in areas north of the city and just under 2 inches to the south. However, it shouldn’t be a complete washout for the entire weekend.
Saturday morning brought clouds, and showers are expected to pop up throughout the afternoon. By night, more widespread rain is expected around 10 p.m. and into the overnight hours.
The National Weather Service warns that most of the state will be under a Level 1 out of 5 threat for severe weather from 5 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Sunday. The biggest threats are hail, gusts that could exceed 60 mph and the possibility of a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
Scattered showers will impact North Georgia throughout most of Sunday. The day won’t be unbearably hot, with a high of 83 degrees, if you’re able to get outside during the dry periods.
More widespread rain and clouds are projected on Memorial Day, making for a dreary and wet holiday. The afternoon high will reach 79 degrees.
