The teenage daughter of a couple found shot and killed in their bed in Carrollton five months ago is now facing murder charges in their deaths, authorities announced Tuesday.

Sarah Grace Patrick, 17, has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the killing of her mother and stepfather, Kristin and James Brock, officials said during a news conference.

The couple’s young daughter, who is now 6, found them shot to death Feb. 20, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Patrick was then 16 years old. After finding the victims, the younger child alerted Patrick, who called 911 around 7:30 a.m.

Authorities said the “horrific” case was a “shock” to the community.

“We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” Carroll County Communications Director Ashley Hulsey said.

Officials have not disclosed a possible motive. The AJC is reporting the teen’s name because the district attorney’s office confirmed she will be tried as an adult.

The 6-year-old child is now staying with family.

Additional arrests and charges could be made since the investigation is still ongoing, and it’s “very possible others are involved as well,” Hulsey said.
