Here we go again, y’all. That damp Southern heat is flirting with the triple-digit mark across metro Atlanta this week.
“Get ready for another hot and steamy day,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
High temperatures are climbing into the mid-90s again Tuesday, a repeat of Monday’s temps that peaked at 95 degrees. Add humidity to the equation, and the heat index could reach 100 degrees or even higher in some areas.
The good news — although not very noticeable — is that those “feels like” temps are expected to hover right under heat advisory criteria on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. By Wednesday, heat index values should drop below 100 degrees.
It will still be very steamy, meaning it will be harder for your body to cool off. So, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade if you’re outdoors.
Another thing to keep in mind this week: rain chances.
“We’re going to stay mainly dry up until about noon (Tuesday), and then beyond that, we’ll have a few hit or miss showers and storms developing,” Deon said. “Where we get those storms to fire up, we can see some heavy downpours.”
The afternoon storm pattern will repeat on Wednesday and stick with us throughout the week.
“No one day will be a washout, but we will have that chance for storms during the afternoon,” Deon said.
If you have any outdoor activities planned, just prepare to take cover if storms blow over your location.
