A truck driver was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday on I-75 North in Marietta.

Terrell Lowdermilk, 36, was struck by a vehicle while standing in the left lane of the entrance ramp from South Marietta Parkway.

The Chattanooga man, who was driving a tractor-trailer, had only exited his vehicle because he was involved in an earlier crash with another semitruck on the interstate, according to police. Both truck drivers pulled over to the right shoulder, and authorities said they got out of their vehicles.

A third vehicle then approached around 2:30 a.m., Marietta police spokesperson Chuck McPhilamy said.

“One of the drivers was struck and killed by a passing motorist. The driver of the passenger vehicle did not stop,” he said in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Police said evidence collected at the scene suggests a 2019–2022 Chevrolet Silverado truck was involved in the hit-and-run. Officials did not say what caused the initial crash between the two trucks.
