Cooler weather in August? In Georgia? That’s right.
Metro Atlanta temperatures are expected to stay below average for the next several days after a cold front moved over the metro area Monday morning, ushering in lower temps and drier air.
Highs on Monday were expected to still be warm — in the low to mid 80s — yet below the 88-degree average high for this time of year. As of 1:45 p.m., Monday’s temp had reached 85 degrees in the city.
Highs will trend lower as the week goes on. Overnight lows are expected to dip into abnormally cool ranges, too.
“Many areas in North Georgia may see highs in the upper 70s. In August. Without widespread cloud cover or (rain) chances. We`ll take it,” the National Weather Service reported.
But most areas will see highs in the low to mid-80s.
Tuesday’s temps are expected to top out around 82 degrees in the city, with the following days’ projected highs to stay between 80 and 83 degrees. Overnight lows could even dip into the upper 50s in some areas — close, but not quite breaking any records, according to the NWS.
“So it’s going to feel nice getting out early on Tuesday morning if you like it a little bit cooler, more fall like,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
Forecasts also call for rain to stay away at least through the end of the week. Friday should see about a 20% chance of showers, a pattern expected to repeat into the weekend.
