A man holding a shotgun was shot by Henry County police Sunday morning, about 36 hours after an officer from the department shot an armed minor during a separate incident, officials said.
Henry police responded at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday to a domestic incident on Brannan Road, a rural area near McDonough. After getting there, officers noticed 38-year-old Greg Hamilton outside a home while holding a shotgun, according to the GBI.
“Officers repeatedly told Hamilton to drop the shotgun, which he refused. One officer discharged his weapon, hitting Hamilton,” the state agency said.
Hamilton, of McDonough, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, the GBI said. Officials have not elaborated on his condition.
GBI spokesperson Sara Lue said agents arrived at the scene after being asked to investigate by Henry police. On Sunday, there was a large law enforcement presence along the roadway and investigators were gathering evidence, photos showed.
The previous incident happened Friday night when Henry police were called to a home on Crandon Court, located about 5 miles southwest from Sunday’s incident. Police were told that a woman had locked herself in her room and her son was trying to break in, according to the GBI.
When police got there, officials said they encountered the son in an upstairs bedroom with a knife. An officer then shot the minor, who was taken to a hospital, according to the GBI. No officers were injured during that shooting.
Both shootings remain under investigation. Once completed, the case files will be given to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for review, officials said.
