A man accused of killing his girlfriend and her brother in DeKalb County on Monday evening was apprehended in Henry County a few hours later, officials said.

The suspect, identified as Steven Christopher Mathis, 25, is accused of shooting the siblings inside a unit at the East Perimeter Pointe Apartments complex, according to a statement by police.

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the man and woman as Christopher and Brandi Lewis. They were 34 and 32 years old, respectively.

According to a warrant for Mathis’ arrest, he shot both victims and stole a 2016 Jeep Renegade, valued at $5,000, that belonged to Brandi Lewis. The heavily redacted warrant is unclear about what exactly led to Monday’s incident.

DeKalb police declined to answer questions seeking more information.

Officers were called around 7:45 p.m. to the community on Snapfinger Woods Drive. The area is just east of Stonecrest and north of I-20.
