One person is dead and three residents were hurt in a Cobb County house fire that also injured three firefighters.
The deadly 3 a.m. blaze on Oakland Drive near Powers Ferry Road was one of two residential fires that Cobb crews battled early Friday. About two hours later, a second fire, near Powder Springs, sent two occupants and a firefighter to the hospital.
In the Oakland Drive fire, one of the residents went back inside the home to try to save an animal, according to a fire department spokesperson. Crews attempted a rescue but that person was found dead, officials said.
Three other residents were taken to the hospital and are stable.
Two firefighters were also taken to the hospital and were stable, and one had been released by mid-morning. A third firefighter was treated at the scene, officials said.

Crews encountered “heavy smoke and heavy flames” as they worked to douse the fire and rescue the occupants, whose identities have not been released, Cobb fire spokesman Nick Danz said at the scene.
“They got reports that there were victims inside, so they immediately do what we call simultaneous attacks,” Danz said. “They’re doing firefighting and search operations at the same time.”
In the Powder Springs blaze on Flowering Springs, one female occupant was found unconscious in the burning house and was rescued by firefighters who performed CPR, officials said. She was taken to the hospital along with another person who had smoke-related injuries. Their conditions and names were not released.
The firefighter injured in that blaze is stable but will likely remain in the hospital for a couple of days, Danz said.
Officials cautioned residents not to go back into a burning house. Instead, they should wait for firefighters to arrive.
“When you get out, stay out,” Danz said. “We have the training and the equipment to be able to rescue your loved ones, your pets, your property. Just leave that to the professionals.”
