A Griffin utility worker died and another was injured Wednesday when authorities said equipment failed as they worked on a power project.
Griffin police said the incident took place near Spalding and Little streets. Authorities identified the lineman killed as Eric Weems and the one injured as Trent Granger.
Weems died at the scene, and Granger was taken to a hospital, police spokesman Richard Powell said.
“Eric sustained a catastrophic injury this morning while working on a project on Spalding Street. Trent Granger, another lineman, is in critical but stable condition at this time,” city officials said in a statement.
“We ask that our community allow the family, friends and colleagues to mourn the loss and pray for healing for two of our own,” officials said.
