One of the largest franchised automotive groups in the U.S. is relocating its headquarters in metro Atlanta, crossing county lines and moving hundreds of employees.

Asbury Automotive Group, a Fortune 500 company that owns auto dealerships around the country, signed a purchase agreement to relocate its headquarters to 6655 Peachtree Dunwoody Road in Sandy Springs next year, the city announced in a Tuesday news release. The company will vacate its longtime headquarters in Duluth, about 20 miles away, leaving Gwinnett County in favor of north Fulton County.

“This is an exciting change for the team and will afford our current and future employees many benefits, both in the building itself and conveniences in the surrounding community,” David Hult, Asbury president and CEO, said in the release.

Asbury will occupy the former Newell Brands headquarters, another Fortune 500 company, known for owning consumer goods brands like Rubbermaid and Sharpie. Newell Brands announced this past summer it signed a 180,000-square-foot lease at the Queen building in Sandy Springs.

About 350 workers are based out of Asbury’s headquarters, and the company expects to occupy its new space in late summer 2025.

The Sandy Springs City Council approved an incentive to waive Asbury’s building permit fees and business occupational taxes for three years, an estimated value of nearly $255,000. Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul said the relocation will add “high-quality employment opportunities and significant economic impact to our community.”

Asbury’s purchase agreement is expected to close within 30 days. The company plans to renovate Newell Brands’ former space of about 98,000 square feet.
