A man was killed and another was injured Monday after they exchanged gunfire inside a southwest Atlanta grocery store, police said.
Atlanta police were called at around noon to Family Grocery Store LLC, located at 875 Metropolitan Parkway, where they found the men each suffering from gunshot wounds, according to homicide commander Lt. Andrew Smith. The green-colored store is located at the intersection with Lillian Avenue in the Adair Park neighborhood.
Police said one of the men was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he is said to be stable. Their names were not released.
Smith said there was an argument between the men, prompting both to pull out handguns and fire at least five combined shots. He said they appeared to know each other before the incident.
While there were no customers shopping at the time, Smith said there were a couple of workers inside.
“Bullets were flying, but they didn’t get hit,” Smith said.
No other details were released by police about the shooting, which remains under investigation. No one answered a call to the grocery store.
