A woman was killed in a wrong-way crash in Buckhead that shut down Ga. 400 for more than four hours Sunday morning, officials said.
The wreck was reported at about 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Lenox Road, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. By 9:45 a.m., the highway reopened after first responders cleared the scene.
Atlanta police spokesperson Officer Aaron Fix said the crash involved a 24-year-old woman driving a Kia Sorento and a 52-year-old man who was behind the wheel of a Toyota RAV4. The man was breathing but not conscious when he was taken to the hospital, while the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by medical crews. She was identified as Morgan Glover by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that one of the vehicles may have been traveling the wrong way on the expressway, which resulted in a head-on collision,” Fix said in a statement.
Several exit/entrance ramps were also closed due to the wreck. Fire crews provided traffic control along the stretch of the highway that was littered with debris, according to an Atlanta fire spokesperson. Drivers had to use Roswell Road or Peachtree Road to navigate around the incident.
On Monday morning, police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant said no arrests had been made, but the investigation remains “highly active.”
