A multivehicle crash on I-20 West claimed the life of an 11-year-old girl and injured at least six other people Monday morning, according to authorities.
The crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. near the Turner Hill Road exit in DeKalb County, police said.
According to investigators, an SUV struck the median wall. Soon after, police said a vehicle hit the SUV, causing it to spin and be struck again by another driver.
The deceased victim was identified as Nevaeh Govan of Douglasville by the DeKalb Medical Examiner’s Office.
A man was also “critically hurt” in the crash that left five others injured, including a 9-year-old, police said. Their names were not released.
“The others appear to be likely to survive their injuries,” police added.
DeKalb Fire Rescue Department spokesperson Capt. Jaeson Daniels said the seven victims were all rushed to a hospital. It’s unclear which vehicles they were in at the time of the wreck.
Police are investigating what caused the initial collision.
The wreck caused traffic to back up for several miles early Monday, but lanes started to reopen just before 6 a.m.
