A 3-month-old died in a hotel room, and his father, who allegedly waited two days before calling 911, is charged with murder, according to Fulton County court records.

Jerry Chambers Jr. is accused of leaving his son, Joshua, in a room at the Travelodge by Wyndham in College Park on Sunday while he went to work, College Park police wrote in an arrest warrant.

Police said they were called to the hotel on Old National Parkway around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and spoke with Chambers, who told them that his son was “unresponsive and foaming at the mouth” when he returned from work Sunday, the warrant states.

Chambers tried to resuscitate the infant to no avail, according to officials, but he did not call for help.

Instead, investigators determined that Chambers left the room and went to another hotel with a friend before returning to pack a bag, all while the baby remained unresponsive, the warrant states. Chambers stayed the night elsewhere and returned to the room at some point but still did not call 911.

He then went to work Tuesday with the infant still in the room, according to the warrant. When he got back, he waited an hour before finally calling police, the warrant states.

Chambers was arrested Wednesday on a charge of murder and first-degree cruelty to children and was booked into the Fulton jail.
