A man has been arrested after a fight led to a deadly shooting in DeKalb County on Thursday morning, authorities said.
DeKalb police got a call at about 10:15 a.m. about a person shot outside a Chevron gas station in the 7000 block of Covington Highway. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from several gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries, police said. He was identified as 28-year-old Delantay Johnson by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to investigators, the shooting started as a fight between Johnson and another man, who was interviewed by police at the scene.
On Thursday afternoon, police said they arrested 20-year-old William Cooper on a charge of malice murder in connection with the incident.
After the gunfire, a handful of evidence markers were situated on the ground by a white Volvo, according to video from Channel 2 Action News.
No other details were provided by police about what led to the shooting.
