A runway equipment issue caused more than quarter of all flights to be delayed at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Sunday, officials said.
In a statement, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it temporarily slowed arrivals into the airport as technicians worked on the equipment problem.
As of 4:30 p.m., more than 400 incoming flights were listed as being delayed, about 33% of the airport’s scheduled arrivals, according to FlightAware. Separately, more than 354 departure flights were also listed as delayed during that same time period, FlightAware data shows.
The delays were expected to last until at least 4 p.m., according to the FAA, which has not provided additional information on the equipment issue.
Hartsfield-Jackson spokesman Andrew Gobeil advised travelers to “monitor their airlines for updates.”
