North Springs High School was evacuated Friday because of a severed gas line that has since been repaired.

Students were sent home via early dismissal, Fulton County Schools officials said in a message to parents. Sandy Springs Middle School was the alternative pickup location for any students who were not picked up early or do not ride the bus.

Contractors not affiliated with Atlanta Gas Light ruptured the line at the school, according to FCS and the natural gas distributer.

DeAllous Smith, a spokesperson for AGL, confirmed around 3 p.m. that only the high school was impacted. Their crews have repaired the damaged and service was restored, Smith added.

All extracurricular activities at the school were canceled for the rest of the day. North Springs High still intends to welcome students, parents and guests on Saturday for the two performances of “James and the Giant Peach.”
