Ex-husband arrested after woman stabbed to death in Marietta home

The 49-year-old ex-husband of a woman found stabbed to death inside her Marietta apartment has been charged with murder, police said Monday.

Mickey Anthony Woolery was arrested more than 500 miles at his home in Carmel, Indiana, where he allegedly tried to run from officers but was caught, according to Marietta police. Woolery is accused of killing 42-year-old Samantha Woolery and has been charged with malice murder, felony, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and possession of weapon during the commission of a crime.

Officers were called early Sunday to the Lakeside at Town Center on Williams Drive, where the woman’s body was found by her coworkers after she didn’t show up for work, police spokesperson Officer Chuck McPhilamy said. The coworkers told police she had visible cuts, was unresponsive and appeared deceased.

According to investigators, Samantha Wollery had been attacked sometime overnight and was already dead by the time her concerned coworkers arrived at the complex. Police said the front door to her apartment was closed but unlocked.

“This attack was an isolated incident by someone she was familiar with,” McPhilamy said. “There is no known threat to the public at this time. All evidence indicates that the suspect fled the area shortly after the attack occurred.”

Detectives determined Mickey Woolery returned to his home in Indiana, and agencies there assisted in the search.

“We appreciate the professional way their agency coordinated efforts and swiftly captured this dangerous fugitive,” McPhilamy said Monday. “Our investigative team will work now to coordinate Mickey’s extradition to Georgia.”

Samantha Wooley recently graduated from Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine and was completing her residency at Morehouse School of Medicine, Channel 2 Action News reported.
