Police have arrested a suspect accused of fatally shooting a woman and injuring a man Saturday in Gwinnett County.
Just after 10 a.m., police responded to 1800 Ardsley Place off Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross and discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound, Gwinnett spokesperson Cpl. Dustin Martin-Young said. He was taken to a hospital.
After receiving additional 911 calls, police were directed to an apartment, where they found a woman dead. On Monday, police identified her as 26-year-old Kevnna Robinson of Norcross.
“We received a phone call from the leasing office in regard to a disturbance that was occurring in that particular building,” Martin-Young said, noting that it was an insolated incident with no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
After detectives conducted an investigation at the scene, they identified the suspect as Tyreun Whitaker of Acworth. The 21-year-old was arrested at an Acworth hotel over the weekend with help from Cobb County SWAT and Acworth police, according to officials.
On Sunday morning, Whitaker was booked into the Cobb jail on charges of murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to online records. Police have not shared a motive or his relationship to the victims.
Just last week, a 24-year-old man was found stabbed to death less than a mile from Saturday’s scene, which is on the border between Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.
