Fani Willis lost sight of why she was elected

Regarding “‘Hard medicine’: Fulton commissioners deny DA Fani Willis, courts extra funding,” AJC Feb. 3, it looks like the Fulton County commissioners finally got tired of the taxpayer-funded games Willis is playing.

The Fulton County taxpayers are on the hook for $20,000 that Willis has to pay to Judicial Watch for her failure to turn over FOIA documents. Her poor decisions and performance are costing not only tax money but failed prosecution of criminals. She decided to chase the windmill of Donald Trump and lost sight of the purpose for which she was elected. Now, it’s the Georgia Bar’s turn to do something with Willis.

Trump wants to drill no matter the cost

Trump wants to drill baby, ignoring science and business truths.

The energy business will keep production to maximize profits regardless of inane dicta, but Trump has failed in non-real estate businesses. Trump is a marketing expert where truth is what you want the gullible to blindly follow.

A recent article states the oil/gas industry is outsourcing work to India (profit motive). Will Trump penalize them (tariffs on labor), or is he beholden to their money?

Sectors of society are being dismantled

As a family doc, I am profoundly disturbed by Trump’s nomination of an anti-vaxxer, misinformation-spewing candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Public health policies and organizations are being attacked, i.e., CDC, WHO and vital public health reports, putting all of us in danger.

And then there are all the other sectors of our society that are being attacked or dismantled:

— The Trump administration’s anti-immigrant sentiment is draconian.

— Climate change is being denied in the fact that 2024 was the hottest year on record, with 27 major climate disasters (fires, hurricanes, etc.) exacerbated by bizarre fluctuations in climate.

— Women’s rights over their bodies are being attacked.

— Administration blaming seemingly everything on “DEI,” which is pure racism and white nationalism, in my opinion.

— “Globalism” is being attacked in an era when humans (as well as viruses and other organisms) are able to travel halfway around the world in about 15 hours, to infect people anywhere on the globe.

The current administration is wasting so much time turning our country insularly backward, whereas we Americans, with global cooperation, could help make the world a safer and better place for all humanity. The isolationist policy does not “make us great” — just look what happened in Afghanistan when reactionary voices took over.
