Saturday trio headlined by Creekside game

The last three games of Week 3 are scheduled for Saturday:

Mundy's Mill hosts Lovejoy, Fannin County hosts Union County and then Creekside hosts Texas-powerhouse DeSoto. The Seminoles will try to avenge a 70-0 loss on the Eagles’ home field last season.

Facing DeSoto is no easy task, but Creekside might have more experience against elite national teams than anyone in Georgia. The Seminoles’ only regular-season losses last season came against DeSoto and nationally ranked Westside from South Carolina.

Creekside has played two national opponents in each of the past three seasons, including national champion Mater Dei in 2023.

North Gwinnett out-physicals Colquitt County in 21-7 win

North Gwinnett made a statement with its first win of the season tonight, physically dominating Colquitt County late in a 21-7 win.

The Bulldogs, who were three-point underdogs in their own stadium, outscored the Packers 14-0 in the second half.

North Gwinnett scored 21 unanswered points in the win.

“We knew defensively, we rally to the ball and run to the ball really well,” North Gwinnett coach Eric Godfree said. “But for offense to come out and get physical, I really challenged our offensive line at the start of the fourth quarter.

“I said, ‘We’re going to pound the rock, and you guys are going to be the guys to help us move the ball.”

North Gwinnett sealed the win with a long touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, followed by a goal line stand with less than four minutes remaining.

“It gives us a lot of momentum, it really does,” Godfree said on beating Colquitt County. “We needed a win, and winning cures a lot of things.”

Grayson shocks No. 1 Alabama team Thompson in overtime

Grayson's first game without quarterback Travis Burgess wasn't perfect, but the Rams did just enough to earn a 24-23 overtime win.

Grayson took a 24-17 lead in overtime before Thompson cut the lead to 24-23 with a touchdown on its first play, according to Jordan Divens of MaxPreps

Thompson tried to win the game with a two-point conversion, but the Rams defense stood strong to secure the win.

Grayson beat Thompson, the top-ranked team in Alabama, by a point in overtime for the second straight season. The Rams won 15-14 in overtime at Thompson last year.

Burgess, a four-star North Carolina commit, announced a season-ending injury on Thursday morning. The Rams clearly missed his presence for most of the game, as they trailed 17-10 with two minutes left.

Grayson did get a strong boost from its uber-talented defense. Five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson played his first game of the season and dealt a punishing hit on the sideline.

Junior cornerback Rilee Drew helped out with a clutch interception in the end zone early in the game.

Grayson also extended its winning streak to 15 games.
