Penix has taken up golfing. Koo, one of the top golfers on the team, has played with the QB.

“He’s got something that you can’t teach, speed,” Koo said. “He hits the ball farther than I’ve seen if he connects on it. His ceiling is very high.”

Koo said Penix can hit it 320 yards off the tee.

“He always tells me that,” Penix said about Koo encouraging him at golf. “He gives me confidence, but he needs to teach me how to hit the driver straight because he does it every time.”

Penix has purchased some new irons.

“They just came in, so hopefully it helps my game,” Penix said.

He plans to hit up one of his sponsorship partners (Adidas) to help out his golf wardrobe.

“I’ve already got a couple fits that I’ve got in rotation,” Penix said. “I do need some more though.”

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
