Atlanta United will enter the 2025 season with more General Allocation Money than any other MLS team, according to information provided by the league Thursday.

The Five Stripes will have $6,503,478 to spend on signing or retaining players, or to buy down their salary charge. Almost $3 million of that total comes from the league, given to each team before the season.

That money won’t be there long.

Atlanta United will use its funds to buy down the contracts of Bartosz Slisz, Stian Gregersen and Saba Lobjanidze to open two Designated Player slots. Rules dictate that the funds can be used to buy down contracts to the lesser of 50% of the salary budget charge, or $150,000. Teams can also use GAM to buy down the sum of a transfer fee.

Atlanta United President Garth Lagerwey said last season that the club was going to buy down the remainder of transfer fees spent. Bartosz Slisz’s reported fee was $3.4 million, Gregersen’s was almost $2.1 million and Lobjanidze’s $1.6 million, according to transfermarkt.us. Most of the GAM will be spent on Slisz.

Clubs may also use up to $200,000 of its GAM to sign new Homegrown signees to their first MLS contracts. Atlanta United will have one Homegrown signee, Ashton Gordon, joining the first team next season.
