One of Georgia Tech’s veteran running backs is leaving the program.
Running back Trey Cooley intends to transfer and play elsewhere for the 2025 season, 247Sports reported Monday, via BZ Sports Management. Cooley spent two seasons with the Yellow Jackets and totaled 300 yards on 70 carries.
Cooley was expected to be a key part of Tech’s offense in 2024, but an injury early in the first quarter against Florida State on Aug. 24 in Dublin, Ireland, derailed his season. Cooley registered just six carries and played just 20 offensive snaps in 2024. In 2023, Cooley averaged 4.28 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns.
Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Cooley began his career at Louisville and spent two seasons with the Cardinals where he had 145 runs for 709 yards and three touchdowns.
Cooley joins fellow running back Evan Dickens, linebackers Jacob Cruz and Caleb Dozier, defensive backs Jayden Davis and Taye Seymore, offensive linemen Kai Greer, Patrick Screws, Corey Robinson and Jordan Brown, defensive linemen Horace Lockett, Uche Iloh and Romello Height, wide receivers Eric Singleton Jr., Christian Leary and Leo Blackburn, running back Evan Dickens and quarterback Zach Pyron as Jackets who have left Tech this offseason.
Tech, meanwhile, has added punter Marshall Nichols (Nevada-Las Vegas, Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School), running back Malachi Hosley (Penn, Northside-Columbus High School), defensive ends A.J. Hoffler, Brayden Manley (Mercer) and Ronald Triplette (Texas-San Antonio), long snapper Luke Whiting (Florida Atlantic), linebackers Melvin Jordan IV (Oregon State) and Cayden Spaulding (Tennessee Tech, Miller Grove HS), defensive tackle Matthew Alexander (Central Florida, Buford HS), tight ends Harry Lodge (Wake Forest) and J.T. Byrne (California), wide receivers Debron Gatling (South Carolina, Milton HS), Dean Patterson (Florida International) and Eric Rivers (Florida International), offensive linemen Andrew Rosinski (North Carolina, Creekview HS) and JaKolby Jones (Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi) and defensive backs Kelvin Hill (Alabama-Birmingham, Carrollton HS) and Daiquan White (Eastern Michigan, Creekside HS) for the 2025 season.
