Loganville on Wednesday announced the hiring of Nic Snowden as its football coach in the most frantic week so far of the offseason coaching carousel.

Northside-Warner Robins, Veterans, Brookwood, Marietta and Commerce also made hires this week while Parkview, Hughes, Griffin, Gordon Central, Schley County and Mount Paran Christian reported openings.

Snowden was a co-defensive coordinator for North Cobb’s 11-1 Class 6A team last season, his second at North Cobb. He is a former Kennesaw State defensive back who spend two seasons at KSU as a graduate assistant.

His was an assistant coach out of college at Loganville Christian Academy, his high school alma mater, where he was a former star quarterback. He also coached a season at Whitefield Academy.

Loganville was 2-8 last season. Gene Cathcart stepped down for health reasons in September, and Stephen Smith finished as the interim coach.

There have been 49 reported openings among the GHSA’s 415 football-playing schools, still far short of the 80 from last season and 105 the one before. There have been only 18 hires. Coaching changes don’t typically slow down until spring.

Griffin coach Clifford Fedd announced late Tuesday that he was leaving to become an assistant coach at Prairie View A&M in Texas. Griffin was 1-9 last season.

Also late Tuesday, Marietta announced it had hired Cameron Duke, who won 85 games in eight seasons at Edgewater in Orlando, Fla.

Brookwood promoted defensive coordinator Chad Nighbert earlier Tuesday while Houston County Schools approved the hires of Daniel Williams to Northside and Steve DeVoursney to Veterans.

Commerce on Monday hired Lenny Gregory, the coach who led Collins Hill to a 2021 Class 7A title.

Gregory had been at Gordon Central, and Williams at Hughes, so those schools are now looking.

Parkview coach Joe Sturdivant told the AJC on Tuesday that he had accepted a job on the staff of Black Hills State in South Dakota to help his 8-year-old son, Bear, who suffers from PANS/PANDAS, a pediatric neuropsychiatric disorder. Georgia’s wet weather exacerbates his son’s condition, the coach said.

Schley County’s Darren Alford has retired, and Mount Paran Christian’s Matt Ely has stepped down.
