FX’s critically acclaimed comedy “English Teacher” has been given a second season.
Set in Austin, Texas, the series was shot in metro Atlanta early 2024. FX has not said whether the second season will stay in Georgia, but it’s relatively unusual for a show to uproot between seasons.
The series, available now on Hulu and Disney+, shot mostly out of Covington.
Executive producer and star Brian Jordan Alvarez, who lived in Atlanta for a year after the pandemic began before returning to Los Angeles, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution last fall that the Georgia city has enough resemblance to Austin to work for his show.
“It’s easy to shoot and a comfortable city to live in,” he said, giving shout-outs to Barry’s Atlanta gym and eateries including Flying Biscuit, Campagnolo and sweetgreen. “Atlanta has all the perks of the big city but is a little more laid-back.”
In the comedy, Alvarez plays Evan Marquez, a likable teacher at a suburban school who regularly tangles with the principal and other teachers over hot topics such as gender, sexual identity, grade inflation and guns.

Critics embraced the show, giving it a 98% positive Rotten Tomatoes rating. The consensus on the site: “‘English Teacher’ makes no bones about the drudgery of faculty life while never feeling like homework, making for a biting and buoyant schoolhouse sitcom.”
10 episodes are expected to air for Season Two later this year.
In a Vulture story in December, an actor, Jon Ebeling, claimed he was sexually assaulted by Alvarez on two occasions in 2015 and 2016. Alvarez said the encounters were consensual.
