Hi, food friends!

It’s easy to tell that Atlanta is gearing up for an extended holiday weekend: Traffic has eased up. (Yesterday, I even snagged a primo parking spot near the AJC’s office in Midtown. Now that’s icing on the cake!) While plenty of folks have already skedaddled out of the city to lake or beach destinations, those of us sticking around town don’t lack for activities – and the food that naturally follows.

Tomorrow, more than 50,000 runners will set off from Lenox Square in the world’s largest 10K race. The AJC Peachtree Road Race is as much a July Fourth tradition in Atlanta as all the fun neighborhood parades (shoutout to Dunwoody!) or fireworks at Stone Mountain. Whether you’re a participant dreading Cardiac Hill or a spectator who’ll cheer them along the racecourse, you’re bound to build up an appetite. Here’s a handy guide to the dining options close to the finish line at Piedmont Park.

After nearly a month of international soccer matches, the FIFA Club World Cup is wrapping up in Atlanta. Saturday will see the final match at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as Paris Saint-Germain plays Bayern Munich at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Got tickets? Here are our suggestions for fueling up before or after 90 minutes of play.

This weekend also marks the height of summer cookouts. If you need ideas for what to bring to the party, think corn. This week, AJC contributor Meridith Ford, who spent childhood summers on her family’s farm in Clarkston, offers a primer on corn and putting it to use in recipes like a yummy, super-easy corn chaat that makes for a stellar snack or side dish. Below, you’ll find even more ideas on how to cook up a delicious holiday.

Wishing you a happy – and safe – Fourth of July!
