A suspect was arrested after one person was killed and another was injured during a shooting Monday in East Point, police said.

While officers were en route to the 3000 block of Washington Road after receiving reports of gunfire, officials said dispatch received several additional calls about multiple people fleeing the area and shots being fired.

The incident was determined to have occurred near a Citgo gas station, Piggly Wiggly and other stores within a small strip mall at the intersection of Washington Road and Harris Drive. Police said they found shell casings in the parking lot, and a suspect was arrested “within the immediate area.”

The suspect, who was not publicly identified, was taken to the East Point Detention Center.

Detectives gathering information at the scene were eventually informed that “unknown individuals involved in the shooting” were located within the city of Atlanta, according to police. One man was taken to a hospital, and another was pronounced dead. Officials did not publicly identify them or clarify how they were involved in the gunfire.
