The race for GHSA's regular season rushing crown remains extremely tight, but the state's leaders in passing and receiving yards have chances to pull away from the competition tonight.
Calhoun receiver Justin Beasley enters his second-to-last regular season game with 1,177 receiving yards. The closest receiver to him, Athens Academy's Keyon Standifer, trails Beasley by 145 yards. Standifer is playing his last game of the regular season tonight.
Beasley aims to take over for the Yellow Jackets in their last away game of the regular season at Heritage-Catoosa. The Generals have beaten the region's three last-place teams but lost 49-0 to the No. 4 team, Northwest Whitfield, three weeks ago.
The only other 1,000-yard GHSA receiver is Mount Vernon's Taurean Rawlins with 1,006 yards. Rawlins has a road trip to Greenville and a regular season finale at home against King's Ridge Christian to catch Beasley.
Jefferson County beat 21-point favorite East Laurens last night in the largest upset from Thursday night.
The Warriors beat the Falcons 14-13. East Laurens had beaten Jefferson County 51-15 and 42-8 in 2023 and 2024.
Griffin can shock the state again tonight with another region upset. The 6-2 Bears, who upset 14-point favorite Jonesboro 21-18 last week, aren't just playing spoiler tonight.
Griffin can win Region 3-4A against defending champion Central-Carrollton tonight. The Bears are 14-point underdogs again and are trying to avenge a 32-0 loss to the Lions last season.
Griffin, which went 1-9 the last two years, has already clinched a playoff spot. The Bears have earned a top two seed in their region, clinching home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
