A widespread Verizon outage was resolved Wednesday night, the company announced, following hours of interruptions in both wireless voice and data services for some of its customers across the U.S.

More than 150,000 Verizon outages were reported on DownDetector, an online site that tracks service.

“If customers are still having an issue, we encourage them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network,” Verizon said in a social media post at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday after announcing it had resolved the issue.

It added: “We sincerely apologize for the disruption.”

During the outage, Atlanta police said its 911 system remained fully operational.

While some Verizon customers reported their devices displaying in “SOS” mode, police said most cellphones can place emergency calls to 911 while in that mode.

Police said in the event that residents were still unable to call 911, they could still contact emergency services by going to atlantapd.org or utilizing “the Text-to-911″ option when available.

Verizon said it will credit the accounts of those users whose service was disrupted, adding that “details will be shared directly with customers.”
