A man died Thursday night after police found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at a southeast Atlanta apartment complex with a history of crime and neglect, officials said.
Officers were called to the Park Vista apartments at 1940 Fisher Road in the Custer-McDonough-Guice neighborhood just before 10:45 p.m. for a person shot, Atlanta police said. Officers found the critically wounded 35-year-old victim at the scene and he was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
No other information was released about the incident.
The victim was later identified as Jerrell Cullins by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Park Vista apartments are among 272 of the metro area’s persistently dangerous complexes, according to an investigation by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that looked into serious crimes, lax maintenance and other hazards in Atlanta neighborhoods.
After Park Vista was included in the AJC’s 2022 investigation, it was added to a list of properties targeted for crime crackdowns by the city of Atlanta and Fulton County prosecutors early last year. When the AJC first investigated, Park Vista officials blamed much of the crime there on the condemned Forest Cove complex across the street.
Since the AJC’s investigation, at least two other men have been killed at the Park Vista complex. James Cason, 63, was found dead there in November 2022, while 20-year-old Joshua Eatman was fatally shot at the property in November 2023.
