Mike Collins wins election in Georgia’s 10th congressional district

Mike Collins, a trucking company owner and son of a former congressman, will represent Georgia’s 10th Congressional District in Washington, according to the Associated Press.

Collins posted a thank you message to supporters on his Twitter account.

“This was a victory for the hard-working people of the 10th district — you can count on me to have your back and fight every day when I’m in Washington,” he wrote.

Collins defeated Democrat Tabitha Johnson-Green in a seat that is Republican-leaning. The district includes all or parts of 18 counties in east-central Georgia.

The incumbent, U.S. Rep. Jody Hice, decided to run for Georgia secretary of state instead of seeking another term in the U.S. House. Hice, who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, lost to incumbent Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in the primary.
